Description
A hearty, comforting Amish-style casserole made with seasoned ground meat, creamy sauce, vegetables, and a crispy tater tot topping that’s perfect for feeding a family.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups frozen tater tots
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for about 5 minutes until soft and translucent.
- Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables and cook for a few minutes until heated through.
- Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and add cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Mix everything until well combined.
- Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots evenly on top.
- Bake uncovered for about 45 minutes, until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Ground turkey can be used for a lighter version.
Frozen vegetables can be added straight from the freezer.
Broil briefly at the end for extra crispy tater tots.
Reheats best in the oven to maintain texture.
