This Espresso Rub T-Bone Steak recipe combines the bold, aromatic flavor of espresso with a perfectly grilled juicy T-bone steak. Seasoned with a savory espresso rub and fresh rosemary, then finished with butter for richness, this dish makes an impressive and flavorful main course perfect for steak lovers.
Ingredients
T-Bone Steak Ingredients
- 1 Hippie Cow Beef T-Bone Steak
- 2 sprigs of Rosemary
- 1 tbsp Butter
- Olive Oil (enough to coat steak)
Espresso Rub Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Sea Salt
- ½ tbsp Ground Espresso
- ½ tbsp Black Pepper
- ½ tbsp Sugar
- 2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin
Instructions
- Prepare the Grill: Build a medium-high heat fire for direct grilling. Add the rosemary sprigs directly to the hot coals and let them burn for about 1 minute to infuse a smoky aroma into the grill area before cooking.
- Season the Steak: Lightly brush the T-bone steak with olive oil on both sides. Generously sprinkle the prepared espresso rub evenly over the steak to coat all surfaces.
- Grill the Steak: Place the seasoned steak on the grill over direct heat. Grill each side for approximately 4 minutes to achieve a medium-rare to medium doneness. About 2 minutes before removing from the grill, place a tablespoon of butter on top of the steak to melt and add flavor.
- Rest the Steak: Remove the steak from the grill and transfer it to a plate or cutting board. Let it rest for 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a juicy and tender steak.
- Serve: Slice the rested steak against the grain, plate it, and enjoy immediately while warm.
Notes
- Resting the steak is essential for juicy results; do not skip this step.
- If you don’t have fresh rosemary, you can omit it or substitute with dried rosemary added to the rub.
- The espresso rub adds a deep, slightly bitter contrast that complements the beef’s richness—don’t overload the steak with extra seasoning.
- Adjust grilling time according to steak thickness and desired doneness.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for preferred doneness: 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium.
