Description

Florida Shrimp Pie is a savory seafood pie featuring tender shrimp, sautéed vegetables, and a creamy egg and cheese filling, all baked in a flaky crust. It’s a flavorful and comforting dish inspired by coastal cuisine.

Ingredients

1 deep-dish pie crust (9-inch, pre-baked or homemade)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 green bell pepper, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 pound medium shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped

3 large eggs

¾ cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper; cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add garlic, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the shrimp and sauté until just pink, 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Stir in shredded cheddar and chopped parsley.
  5. Spread the shrimp mixture into the pre-baked pie crust evenly.
  6. Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the top, allowing it to settle between the ingredients.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pie for 30–35 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
  8. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use a gluten-free crust to make this dish celiac-friendly.

Adjust cayenne or omit for less spice.

Crab or mixed seafood can be substituted for shrimp.

Best served with a green salad or citrus slaw.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
