Description
Florida Shrimp Pie is a savory seafood pie featuring tender shrimp, sautéed vegetables, and a creamy egg and cheese filling, all baked in a flaky crust. It’s a flavorful and comforting dish inspired by coastal cuisine.
Ingredients
1 deep-dish pie crust (9-inch, pre-baked or homemade)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
3 large eggs
¾ cup heavy cream
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper; cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for another minute.
- Add the shrimp and sauté until just pink, 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Stir in shredded cheddar and chopped parsley.
- Spread the shrimp mixture into the pre-baked pie crust evenly.
- Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the top, allowing it to settle between the ingredients.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pie for 30–35 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
