Description

A rich and luxurious French hot chocolate made with real dark chocolate, milk, and cream for a thick, silky drink that feels like dessert in a mug.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon powdered sugar

2 teaspoons brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon espresso powder or instant espresso granules

8 ounces 70% dark chocolate, chopped

Whipped cream, for topping

Chocolate shavings, for topping

Marshmallows, for topping

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk, heavy cream, powdered sugar, brown sugar, and espresso powder in a medium saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium heat until small bubbles form around the edges, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate.
  4. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  5. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and marshmallows as desired.
  6. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

This hot chocolate is thicker than standard versions, similar to traditional French style.

Milk chocolate can be used for a sweeter flavor.

Add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder for warmth.

A splash of vanilla extract adds extra depth.

Reheat gently over low heat to maintain a smooth texture.
