Ingredients
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon espresso powder or instant espresso granules
8 ounces 70% dark chocolate, chopped
Whipped cream, for topping
Chocolate shavings, for topping
Marshmallows, for topping
Instructions
- Combine the milk, heavy cream, powdered sugar, brown sugar, and espresso powder in a medium saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat until small bubbles form around the edges, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate.
- Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and marshmallows as desired.
- Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
This hot chocolate is thicker than standard versions, similar to traditional French style.
Milk chocolate can be used for a sweeter flavor.
