Ingredients
1 cup steel-cut oats
2 cups water
1 cup milk (or plant-based alternative)
1 apple, diced
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Bring the water and milk to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the steel-cut oats and reduce the heat to a gentle simmer.
- Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Stir in the diced apple, cinnamon, and salt.
- Continue cooking for another 10 minutes, until the oats are creamy and the apples are tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in the walnuts and honey or maple syrup.
- Serve warm.
Notes
Add extra milk when reheating to loosen the texture.
Pears can be substituted for apples.
