Description

These Homemade Garlic Knots are soft, buttery, and infused with rich garlic flavor. Perfect for pairing with pizza, pasta, or soup, they’re made from simple yeast dough and brushed with flavorful garlic butter for an irresistible side or snack.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp olive oil

For the Garlic Butter:

4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

34 cloves garlic, minced or grated

1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 1 tsp dried parsley)

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope and tie into a knot, tucking ends underneath.
  6. Place knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover loosely and let rise for another 20–30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  8. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, garlic, parsley, salt, and red pepper flakes if using.
  9. Brush half of the garlic butter over the knots before baking.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Brush remaining garlic butter over the hot knots right after baking.
  12. Serve warm, optionally with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Sprinkle grated Parmesan or Italian seasoning over the knots for extra flavor.

For cheesy garlic knots, stuff small mozzarella cubes inside the dough before tying.

To make vegan, replace butter with olive oil or plant-based butter.

Use pre-made pizza dough for a quick shortcut version.

Store at room temperature up to 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days; reheat before serving.

Freeze baked or unbaked knots for up to 2 months.
