Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup milk

2 apples, peeled and diced

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ cup brown sugar

¼ cup all-purpose flour (for crumb topping)

2 tablespoons butter, melted (for crumb topping)

½ cup powdered sugar (for cinnamon drizzle)

12 tablespoons milk (for cinnamon drizzle)

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (for cinnamon drizzle)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, softened butter, egg, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  3. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle the diced apples evenly over the batter.
  5. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, and melted butter until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool slightly.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon together to make the drizzle.
  10. Drizzle over the warm cake, slice, and serve.

Notes

Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples work best for structure.

Add chopped nuts to the crumb topping for extra crunch.

The cake can be served warm or at room temperature.
