Description

Meaty Texas Trash Dip is a Tex-Mex fiesta featuring ground beef, spicy sausage, creamy cheeses, and bold spices. This cheesy, savory dip is perfect for any gathering, whether it’s game day, a party, or a casual get-together. Serve with tortilla chips or veggies, and your guests won’t be able to resist.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 lb spicy sausage

1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed

1 can (15 oz) refried beans

1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies (like Rotel)

1 cup sour cream

1 cup cream cheese, softened

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 tablespoon taco seasoning

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

¼ cup sliced jalapeños (optional, for extra heat)

1 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)

Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Meats: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and spicy sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Combine the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked meat, black beans, refried beans, and diced tomatoes with green chilies. Mix until well combined.
  4. Add Dairy: Stir in the sour cream, cream cheese, taco seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until everything is creamy and well-mixed.
  5. Cheese Layering: Gently fold in 1 cup of cheddar cheese and 1 cup of Monterey Jack cheese into the mixture. Reserve the remaining cheese for topping.
  6. Bake: Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread it evenly, then top with the remaining cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. Sprinkle sliced jalapeños on top for added heat (if desired).
  7. Time to Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Garnish & Serve: Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before garnishing with chopped green onions. Serve hot with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

Swap the spicy sausage for ground turkey, chicken, or a vegetarian protein like textured vegetable protein (TVP) for a lighter version.

Add more jalapeños or hot sauce for extra heat.

Use a variety of cheeses like pepper jack or queso blanco for a different flavor profile.
