Description

Nana Bessie’s Crockpot Stuffing With Sausage is a rich and flavorful stuffing recipe that combines savory sausage, fresh herbs, and seasoned dressing mix, slow-cooked to perfection in a crockpot. This comforting dish is perfect for holiday gatherings or anytime you crave a classic, moist stuffing with a homemade touch.

Ingredients

Produce

  • 1 Large Onion, chopped
  • 1 Bundle of Celery, sliced
  • 1 Teaspoon Minced Garlic

Dairy

  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 1 Dozen Eggs

Meat

  • 2 Lbs Sausage (Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage)

Pantry

  • 1 Tablespoon Sage
  • 1 ½ Teaspoon Rosemary
  • 1 Teaspoon Thyme
  • ½ Teaspoon Ground Pepper
  • 2 Packages Mrs. Cubbison’s Seasoned Dressing (or stuffing mix works too)
  • 12 (14.5 oz) Cans Chicken Broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare Vegetables: Slice the celery and chop the onion. Set aside for later use.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Melt the butter in a large pan. Add the chopped onion and sliced celery, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent and softened.
  3. Cook Sausage and Seasonings: Add the sausage and all the seasonings (sage, rosemary, thyme, minced garlic, and ground pepper) to the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is fully browned and cooked through.
  4. Beat Eggs: In a large bowl, beat all twelve eggs until well combined.
  5. Combine Dressing Mix: Add the seasoned dressing mix to the beaten eggs. Stir thoroughly until the dry dressing is completely moistened.
  6. Add Sausage Mixture: Incorporate the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture into the moistened dressing mix. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute ingredients.
  7. Add Chicken Broth Gradually: Pour in one can of chicken broth a little at a time while stirring continuously, ensuring the stuffing mixture stays moist but not overly wet.
  8. Transfer to Crockpot: Grease a large (at least 6-quart) crockpot and transfer the stuffing mixture into it.
  9. Cook: Cook the stuffing on the low setting for 4 hours. Stir occasionally during cooking to ensure even heat distribution.
  10. Maintain Moisture: During the cooking process, gradually add the second can of chicken broth in drizzle amounts while mixing gently to prevent the stuffing from drying out.

Notes

  • Use Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage for the best flavor.
  • This recipe yields enough stuffing to stuff a large turkey and fill a 6-quart slow cooker.
  • The recipe can be easily halved.
  • Additional chicken broth can be added as needed to keep the stuffing moist during cooking.
