Description

Poppy Seed Chicken is a creamy baked casserole made with tender chicken breasts, a rich sour cream and cream of chicken sauce, melted cheddar cheese, and a buttery cracker topping with poppy seeds. Comforting and hearty, it’s a family-friendly dinner favorite.


Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup

1 cup sour cream

1 cup grated cheddar cheese

1 tbsp poppy seeds

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 cup crushed crackers (such as Ritz)

Salt and pepper, to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Place chicken breasts in the dish and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Mix cream of chicken soup and sour cream in a bowl until smooth. Spread evenly over chicken.
  4. Sprinkle cheddar cheese and poppy seeds over the sauce layer.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter with crushed crackers. Sprinkle evenly on top.
  6. Bake 35–40 minutes, until chicken is fully cooked and topping is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving hot.

Use rotisserie chicken for a quicker version.

Swap sour cream with plain Greek yogurt for a lighter option.

Try mozzarella or Monterey Jack instead of cheddar.

Mix broccoli or peas into the sauce for added vegetables.
