Description

This Salted Honey Pie is a decadent Southern-inspired dessert that combines a silky honey custard filling with a buttery crust and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. Sweet, salty, and perfectly balanced, it’s an elegant yet easy-to-make pie that delivers comfort and sophistication in every bite.

Ingredients

For the Crust:

1 (9-inch) pie crust, homemade or store-bought (blind baked)

For the Filling:

½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

¾ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup fine cornmeal

¼ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup honey (wildflower or clover recommended)

3 large eggs

½ cup heavy cream

For the Topping:

Flaky sea salt (such as Maldon), to finish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Chill the pie crust, then line it with foil or parchment and fill with pie weights. Blind bake for 12–15 minutes, remove weights, and bake 5 more minutes until lightly golden. Cool slightly.
  2. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, cornmeal, salt, lemon juice, vanilla, and honey until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition until fully incorporated.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream until the filling is silky and well combined.
  6. Pour the filling into the pre-baked crust and place the pie on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 40–50 minutes, until the center is just set and slightly jiggly. Tent the crust with foil if it browns too quickly.
  8. Cool the pie completely on a wire rack for at least 2 hours to allow it to set.
  9. Before serving, sprinkle the top with flaky sea salt for a sweet-salty finish.

Notes

Add 1 tablespoon bourbon or a pinch of cinnamon for extra depth of flavor.

Use orange blossom honey and zest for a citrus twist.

For mini pies, use tart shells and bake for about 25 minutes.

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Store refrigerated up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
