Ingredients
1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Finely chop or pulse the shrimp in a food processor until it forms a coarse paste.
- Transfer the shrimp to a bowl and mix in the panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the shrimp balls in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- Remove the shrimp balls from the oil and drain on paper towels before serving with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Double coat the shrimp balls in panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
For a spicier version, add chopped chilies or chili flakes to the mixture.
Use gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed rice crackers for a gluten-free option.
To bake, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20 minutes, turning halfway through.
Freeze uncooked shrimp balls for up to 1 month for later use. Fry or bake from frozen.
