Description
Mazapan is a traditional Mexican candy made from finely ground roasted peanuts and powdered sugar. This delightful sweet treat is known for its crumbly texture and rich peanut flavor, making it a favorite snack for children and adults alike. The recipe is simple, requiring only two ingredients and a food processor to create these bite-sized, melt-in-your-mouth candies.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2 cups roasted unsalted peanuts
- 1 ¾ cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare peanuts: Add half of the roasted unsalted peanuts to the food processor bowl to begin the grinding process.
- Initial blending: Blend the peanuts for 1 minute until they start to break down into a coarse meal.
- Scrape down sides: Use a spatula to scrape the peanut bits off the walls of the food processor bowl to ensure even grinding.
- Add remaining peanuts: Add the remaining half of the peanuts into the food processor bowl.
- Second blending: Blend again to continue breaking down the peanuts to a finer consistency.
- Scrape down sides again: Use the spatula to scrape the sides once more for uniform texture.
- Add powdered sugar: Add 1 ¾ cups powdered sugar to the ground peanuts.
- Final blending: Blend the mixture until it reaches a smooth but crumbly texture that sticks together when pressed.
- Form candies: Press the mixture with your hands to check for stickiness and spoon some peanut mixture into a round cookie cutter mold.
- Press firmly: Use your hands or a pestle to firmly press the mixture into the mold to form compact candies.
- Remove mold: Gently lift the cookie cutter to release the formed mazapan candy.
- Repeat: Continue spooning, pressing, and removing until all the mixture is used up.
Notes
- The quantity of candies will depend on the size of the cookie cutter or mold you use.
- A food processor yields better results than a blender for this recipe.
- Store mazapan candies wrapped in plastic cling wrap or in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
- These candies are naturally crumbly and fragile, so handle them gently and do not expect them to hold perfectly intact.
